A GOOD MAN GONE TO HIS REWARD
Right Reverend George D. Cummins, the founder and senior Bishop of the Reformed Episcopal Church, died at his residence at Lutherville, Baltimore county, at half-past two-o'clock yesterday afternoon. His death was sudden and quite unexpected by the large number of the Bishop's friends, many of whom but a few days before had seen him in the vigor of life and health, who entertained the hope that his brilliant faculties would remain at their height for many years. On Sunday the 17th of this month he delivered his last sermon at Bethany Independent Methodist Church, preaching both morning and evening. A sketch of his morning sermon appeared in The American on the following day. This was his last appearance in any church. On Sunday night he went home to Lutherville, and for the next few days suffered from a severe cold. He paid but little attention to this ailment, which continued to grow worse day by day. On Thursday he began to suffer from inflammation of the bowels, and yesterday morning his friends noticing that he was failing, Mr. E H Cummins, his son, was dispatched for Drs. Christopher Johnston and Williams, Dr. Peebles having previously attended him. Dr. Johnston hurried to Calvert Station to take the train for Lutherville, but was met at the gate by a dispatch announcing the death of the patient. The information was communicated to Mr. Cummins, who would not at first believe its truth until he was shown the telegram, which was sent from Towsontown, and signed "E. H. Cummins," whose name had been used by the parties sending the message. He forthwith took the car and proceeded home, and discovered that the information was only too true.
